Round steel information: Chemical composition and mechanical properties of Japanese standard S45C round steel
S45C is a medium carbon high-quality carbon structural steel in the Japanese JIS G4051 standard, corresponding to the Chinese national standard 45 steel. It has stricter impurity control and is a highly versatile basic steel grade in the field of mechanical manufacturing.
Chemical composition (JIS standard specifications)
table
Range of Element Mass Scores
Carbon (C) 0.42%~0.48%
Silicon (Si) 0.15%~0.35%
Manganese (Mn) 0.60%~0.90%
Phosphorus (P) ≤ 0.030%
Sulfur (S) ≤ 0.035%
Copper (Cu) ≤ 0.30%
Nickel (Ni) ≤ 0.20%
Chromium (Cr) ≤ 0.20%
This component design achieves an excellent balance between strength, wear resistance, and machinability of the material, with higher strength than low carbon steel and easier processing and shaping than high carbon steel.
mechanical properties
There are significant differences in performance under different heat treatment conditions. The core indicators of the standard sample (diameter 25mm) are as follows:
Untreated state: hardness ≤ 229HB, tensile strength ≥ 600MPa, yield strength ≥ 355MPa
Annealing state: Hardness ≤ 197HB, optimal machinability, suitable for direct precision machining
Normalized state: tensile strength of 570~700MPa, yield strength ≥ 343MPa, elongation ≥ 17%, hardness of 170~217HB, can be directly used for ordinary structural components
Quenching and tempering state (quenching+high temperature tempering): The tensile strength can reach 570-700MPa, the yield strength is ≥ 355MPa, the elongation δ 5 is ≥ 16%, the cross-sectional shrinkage rate is ≥ 40%, the impact absorption energy Akv is ≥ 39J, the hardness is 220-280HBW, and the comprehensive strength and toughness are the best
After surface induction hardening: the surface hardness can reach 54-60HRC, and the core still maintains good toughness, balancing wear resistance and impact resistance
The hardenability of this material is limited, with an effective hardening diameter of about 37mm. The center of large section parts cannot be completely quenched, and it is prone to deformation and cracking during water quenching. After tempering, it is recommended to cool quickly to avoid tempering brittleness.
