Steel pipe information: ASTM A106 Grade B with good chemical composition and mechanical properties
The chemical composition and mechanical properties of ASTM A106 Grade B seamless steel pipes are as follows:
1、 Chemical composition (in accordance with ASTM A106/A106M standards)
ASTM A106 Grade B is low-carbon manganese steel, and its main elements and content requirements are as follows:
Carbon (C): ≤ 0.30% - ensuring good weldability and plasticity
Manganese (Mn): 0.29%~1.06% - improves strength, hardness, and high-temperature deformation resistance
Silicon (Si): ≥ 0.10% - Provides deoxidation and enhances strength
Phosphorus (P): ≤ 0.035% (some standards require ≤ 0.025%) - strictly controlled to avoid cold brittleness
Sulfur (S): ≤ 0.035% (some standards require ≤ 0.025%) - Control the tendency towards hot brittleness
Trace alloy elements:
Chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), nickel (Ni): all ≤ 0.40%
Molybdenum (Mo): ≤ 0.15%
Vanadium (V): ≤ 0.08%
Note: Some sources mention carbon content ranging from 0.17% to 0.24%, which may be specific batch or old version standard values. Currently, the mainstream standard is ≤ 0.30%.
2、 Mechanical properties
ASTM A106 Grade B has excellent strength and toughness balance in high temperature and high pressure environments:
Tensile strength: ≥ 415 MPa
Yield strength: ≥ 240 MPa
Elongation rate: ≥ 22%~30% (depending on the sample gauge length)
Hardness: Brinell hardness (HB) is usually between 137-187
High temperature performance: It can work stably in an environment ranging from -29 ℃ to 425 ℃ (some data claim it can reach 565 ℃), with a strength retention rate of over 85% at 425 ℃
Process performance: Low carbon content, suitable for forming processes such as welding, bending, and curling, and not prone to cracking
